Scholarships are only available to staff of HUD-approved housing counseling agencies.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
The NeighborWorks® Center for Homeownership Education and Counseling (NCHEC), partnered with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), isoffering scholarships to the staff of HUD-Approved housing counseling agencies. A limited number of scholarships are available for select NCHEC Homeownership and Community Lending courses.
Your organization MUST be a HUD-approved housing counseling agency to apply for this scholarship.
HOW TO APPLY
Scholarship applications will ONLY be accepted using this online system.To apply for a scholarship you must first create an account by clicking the “Create Account” tab.Follow the directions on the web site to create a personal account.If you have already created an account, log in to the site.
Once you are logged into the site, Click on the “Learn More” tab for this event.Choose from the list of available courses and select your first- and second-choice course selections for the week. You must complete your online application by the stated deadline.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. Scholarship awards are non-transferable to other individuals, or from one event to another.
Eligibility
§Must be staff of a HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency.This includes affiliates of National Intermediaries or staff from Locally Approved Housing Counseling Agencies.
§Eligibility will be confirmed based on a valid HUD ID number, which must be indicated when applying for scholarships and registering for training events.
§Each agency may receive up to ONE scholarship during 2010 (subject to demand and availability, additional scholarships may be available).
Registration
If you are chosen to receive the scholarship, you will receive an e-mail notification and will be automatically registered for the event.
Support
This scholarship covers the cost of tuition and lodging. Residents within 25 miles of the meeting site are ineligible for lodging scholarships. It is the sole responsibility of each participant to secure travel accommodations.Meals and other related expenses are not provided under the scholarship, and are the responsibility of each participant.

THIS COURSE REQUIRES THAT AN ONLINE TRAINING MODULE BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS. Economic education is a critical piece of a comprehensive homebuyer education program. Given today’s economic climate and the increasing complexity of financial services, long-term successful homeownership requires sound knowledge of how to navigate the maze of financial options available. This course will identify the essential components of an effective financial literacy program and provide tools to help participants design programs that meet the needs of their target communities. This course is designed for housing counselors with a minimum of one year of extensive experience providing one-on-one prepurchase counseling to clients. (Counselors with less than one year of experience should first take the Introduction to Housing Counseling course - HO110). Through hands-on applications, this advanced course teaches counselors the skills, procedures and content needed to create new homeowners. Find out how to provide one-on-one counseling sessions to address savings, credit and debt barriers to homeownership, and using the latest industry tools, techniques and resources. Practice mortgage readiness assessment, prequalification, credit report review, action plan development and other key counseling activities. Full certification in housing counseling training is offered by completing this course, passing the exam, and completing the Foreclosure Basics course (HO109).
